Join Disko on Wednesday 4th March when he Interviews Camille Trail and talks about her new Single “Devils Drink”

It’s Tamworth Country Music Festival, the biggest festival of the year. Shane Nicholson is playing to a full house and he pauses to invite a guest to join him. A 21-year-old woman, as yet unknown to the crowd, walks on stage. This is the last time that the Tamworth crowd won’t recognise her name – Camille Trail.  Nicholson tells the crowd that she’s the only person he’s ever worked with that paid for the recording of an album by selling a couple of bulls.

There’s no bull about it – Camille Trail has blazed her own namesake at the start of 2020, and to say there’s a buzz about her is to criminally understate the obvious. She’s just wrapped up a run of shows at the 2020 Tamworth Country Music Festival, she has a debut album produced by Nicholson under her belt, and she’s today released her brand new single ‘Devil’s Drink’ and its accompanying video.

‘Devil’s Drink’ comes off the back of Trail’s debut single ‘Humming Chain’, which hit #6 on the iTunes Singer Songwriter Chart. Speaking about the new track, Trail said ‘I wrote Devil’s Drink around the idea of something following you – whether it’s a person or a fear – and how you just can’t shake it off, no matter what you do.’

Produced by multiple ARIA and Golden Guitar winning Shane Nicholson at Sound Hole Studios, the track is another of those things you won’t be able to shake off – a stunning showcase of Trail’s vocals with just enough country too. It’s her first release since signing a recording agreement with Compass Bros Records.

‘I struggle with anxiety,’ said Trail, ‘so this song links in with me dealing with the pressures that brings and trying to shake it all off. I hope it connects because I feel that the message is universal. In one way or another, maybe everyone has something they’re trying to outrun.’

The film clip for ‘Devil’s Drink’ was shot late at night in the back streets of Sydney. In it, we see the shadow of a dark spirit following Trail, which possess bystanders as she passes.  ‘The tension builds as I become more and more worried,’ says Trail, ‘I’m looking over my shoulder and trying to outrun whatever it is that’s stalking me.’

It’s a simple concept executed perfectly by Duncan Toombs, the multi-award-winning director from The Filmery.  Come to think of it, multi-award winner is a title that may one day apply to Camille Trail too, given the quality of ‘Devil’s Drink’, and though the drink may belong to the devil, it’s been delivered by the voice of an angel.
