From today local community radio station Braidwood FM has a new frequency and a much bigger coverage area.

Braidwood FM has now moved to 88.9 FM and is broadcasting from a brand new transmitter tower on greatly increased power. For over 15 years the station has been transmitting with 300 watts. Now that has been increased to 2000 watts! Braidwood FM can now be heard clearly in towns throughout the region such as Nerriga and Lake Bathurst for the very first time. The radio station’s new broadcasting range covers the Kings Highway from the Clyde Mountain to Bungendore and the Goulburn Road to the outskirts of Goulburn.

In addition to its expanded broadcast range Braidwood FM has also acquired a mobile broadcast studio. Over the coming months Braidwood FM will be taking it to the streets and roads to cover a number of local events. These include the upcoming Country Rocks Under the Stars music festival and Araluen Sports Day.

Station Manager Gordon Waters and Program co-ordinator Pete Diskon are working with presenters to create a sound that reflects the needs and aspirations of the local community. There will be several program spots available for “local interview” slots including Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10am till 1pm. The charter of community radio is to present a diverse range of music and programming. On Braidwood FM this will include new Australian Music, classical, jazz, blues, folk and classic hits as well as new and classic country. The station is on the lookout for new broadcasters and during September will be a running a series of training programs in conjunction with the Community Media Training Organisation.

If you are interested in presenting a program on Braidwood FM you can phone Gordon Waters on 0422 921 269 or Pete Diskon on 0418 263 850 during office hours and to organise a meeting.
